THE PARTS OF MAN

  1. THE THREE PARTS OF MAN—SPIRIT, SOUL, BODY

    1 Thessalonians 5:23
And the God of peace Himself sanctify you wholly, and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  2. THE DISTINCTION OF SOUL AND SPIRIT

    Luke 1:46-47

    1. And Mary said, My soul magnifies the Lord,
    2. And my spirit has exulted in God my Savior;

    Philippians 1:27
Only, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, that whether coming and seeing you or being absent, I may hear of the things concerning you, that you stand firm in one spirit, with one soul striving together along with the faith of the gospel,

    Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and operative and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit and of joints and marrow, and able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

  3. THE THREE PARTS OF THE SOUL—MIND, EMOTION, WILL

    1. THE MIND

      Psalm 13:2
How long will I bear concern in my soul And sorrow in my heart day after day? How long will my enemy be exalted over me?

Know that wisdom is such for your soul; if you find it, then there will be a latter end, and your hope will not be cut off.

      Lamentations 3:20
My soul remembers them well and is bowed down within me.

    2. THE EMOTION

      1 Samuel 18:1
Now when he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan became knit with the soul of David; and Jonathan loved him like his own soul.

      Song of Songs 1:7
Tell me, you whom my soul loves, Where do you pasture your flock? Where do you make it lie down at noon? For why should I be like one who is veiled Beside the flocks of your companions?

      2 Samuel 5:8
And David said on that day, Whoever would strike the Jebusites, let him go up to the watercourse and strike the lame and the blind, who are hated by David's soul. Therefore they say, The blind and the lame shall not come into the house.

      Isaiah 61:10
I will rejoice greatly in Jehovah, My soul will exult in My God; For He has clothed Me with the garments of salvation, He has wrapped Me with the robe of righteousness; I am like a bridegroom who wears the headdress of the priest, And like a bride who adorns herself with her jewels.

      Judges 10:16
And they removed the foreign gods from their midst and served Jehovah. And His soul could no longer bear Israel's misery.

      Deuteronomy 14:26
And you shall exchange the money for anything that your soul desires, for oxen, for sheep, for wine, for strong drink, or for anything that your soul would like; and you and your household shall eat there before Jehovah your God and rejoice.

      1 Samuel 20:4
And Jonathan said to David, Whatever you say, I will do for you.

    3. THE WILL

      Job 7:15
So that my soul would choose strangulation and death rather than my bones.

      Job 6:7
My soul refuses to touch them; they are like putrid food to me.

      1 Chronicles 22:19
Now set your heart and your soul to seek after Jehovah your God; and arise and build the sanctuary of Jehovah God, in order to bring the ark of covenant of Jehovah and all the holy vessels of God to the house that is to be built for the name of Jehovah.

  4. THE THREE PARTS OF THE SPIRIT—CONSCIENCE, FELLOWSHIP, INTUITION

    1. THE CONSCIENCE

      Deuteronomy 2:30
But Sihon the king of Heshbon, would not let us pass through his land, for Jehovah your God hardened his spirit and made his heart obstinate for the purpose of delivering him into your hand, as he is today.

      Romans 9:1; 8:16

      1 Corinthians 5:3
For I, on my part, though being absent in the body but present in the spirit, have already judged, as if being present, him who has thus done this,

    2. THE FELLOWSHIP

      And my spirit has exulted in God my Savior;

      Ephesians 6:18
By means of all prayer and petition, praying at every time in spirit and watching unto this in all perseverance and petition concerning all the saints,

    3. THE INTUITION

      Mark 2:8
And immediately Jesus, knowing fully in His spirit that they were reasoning this way within themselves, said to them, Why are you reasoning about these things in your hearts?

      Mark 8:12
And He groaned deeply in His spirit and said, Why does this generation seek a sign? Truly I tell you, No sign shall be given to this generation.

      John 11:33
Then Jesus, when He saw her weeping and the Jews who came with her weeping, was moved with indignation in His spirit and was troubled,

To perceive, to sigh, and to groan in our spirit come from a direct sense of discernment which is not dependent upon reason. This we call the intuition, the third function of our spirit.

      The Economy of God, p. 59, W.L.

      1 Corinthians 2:11
For who among men knows the things of man, except the spirit of man which is in him? In the same way, the things of God also no one has known except the Spirit of God.

  5. THE FOUR PARTS OF THE HEART—MIND, EMOTION, WILL, CONSCIENCE

    1. THE MIND

      Genesis 6:5
And Jehovah saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

And Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, Why are you thinking evil things in your hearts?

      Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and operative and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit and of joints and marrow, and able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

    2. THE EMOTION

      John 16:6
But because I have spoken these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.

      Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and operative and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit and of joints and marrow, and able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

    4. THE CONSCIENCE

      Hebrews 10:22
